Job Description:

As an Animal Care Attendant, you’ll be the top dog in keeping our furry friends in tip-top shape. Your duties will include making kennels sparkle like a freshly polished paw, serving up gourmet kibble (Bon appétit, furballs!), and ensuring our pets are having a paw-some time. Plus, you’ll charm the fur off potential adopters and visitors. It’s a pawsitively purrfect job, and we need you!

Qualifications:

🐾 High school diploma (or higher) – Aced that test, did you?

🐾 Passion for animals – Must have a heart as big as a Saint Bernard’s.

🐾 Preferred experience in animal-related fields – Vet clinic and kennel aficionados, we’re barking up the right tree!

Animal Care Attendant

JOB SUMMARY

This position serves a vital role in ensuring that all shelter animals are cared for in a humane and healthy environment. In this role, the Animal Care Attendant is responsible for following all procedures in place to ensure that all animal enclosures are cleaned to the highest standards. The Animal Care Attendant is also responsible for socializing shelter animals, providing enrichment for shelter animals and assisting with the adoption process.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Cleaning all animal enclosures to the levels set forth in the Standard Operating Procedures manual. 

Providing shelter animals with appropriate food, water and enrichment throughout the day. 

Assisting potential adopters with animal visits and meet and greets. 

Assisting the Veterinary Assistant to ensure that animals are properly vaccinated and receiving proper medications. While vaccinations and medications are a primary role for the Veterinary Assistant, it is imperative that the Animal Care Attendant can vaccinate an intake animal should the Veterinary Assistant be unavailable. 

Providing back-up to the Office Administrator to be able to answer incoming phone calls, process adoption applications and run monetary transactions in Shelterluv.

Updating Shelterluv with proper information for shelter animals such as medications, vaccinations, locations, weight and holds. 

Observing shelter animals for signs of stress, illness or disease. Notifying veterinary staff when concerns are noted.

Update animal biographies/kennel cards to include accurate information about the animal and it’s personality. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Must be able to multi-task.

Must be able to work well with little to no supervision. 

Must be able to be flexible to cover work needed across the entire shelter.

QUALIFICATIONS

Preference is given to candidates who have completed a post-secondary education program.

Commitment to the mission, policies, and goals of PCAS.

Hands-on experience in the animal care field, including a basic knowledge of veterinary processes, and canine and feline behavior and training. 

Ability to work alone or with minimal supervision. Must be self-motivated.

Commitment to follow the guidelines within this job description to ensure proper animal care.

Ability to work under pressure.

Use of patience and tact when working with difficult, emotional, or angry people.

Exhibit alertness and great attention to detail with animal handling and human relations.

Handling people and animals in a pleasant, courteous and professional manner.

Ability to speak and write clearly and professionally.

Proficiency with computers including email and shelter management software.
